My name is Raymond Earl Beatty, but since high school, I’ve been “Paz.” The word is Spanish for peace. I am the product of my mistakes, of life lessons, and of a formal education at Southern Methodist University.
I take a hands-on approach to learning, helping me to form and reform useful skills quickly. As a journalist, I have worked as producer, teleprompter, audio engineer, technical director, server, studio camera operator, floor director, anchor, reporter and writer for the student-produced broadcast The Daily Update and contributed to the student-produced newspaper The Daily Campus. I have worked in the same capacities and am a co-executive producer/anchor for PuntoTV, SMU’s first Spanish language broadcast, which a group of my peers and I started last year. I earned the honor of being a Belo Scholar two years in a row, as well as a one-semester internship with WFAA-8, the ABC affiliate in Dallas. As a Spanish-speaker, I have pressed towards fluency by speaking the language daily with friends and Spanish professors. As a photographer, I have taken and edited photos of everything from senior pictures to weddings.
My passion is for public speaking and research. Because of that, I am determined to earn a position as a reporter for a respected news organization.
